Black Undergravel Filter – 16 Pieces

Modular Under-Gravel Filter Kit is an ideal filter for small aquariums. Simply cover with up to 10cm of gravel and connect an air pump or powerhead (not included) to the uplift. This kit is recommended for aquariums up to 60cm x 30cm. More filter kits can be added to create the size or shape that you require.

• Under-Gravel Filters work by drawing water from the aquarium through the gravel.
• This acts as a layer of filter media giving a huge surface area for mechanical and biological filtration.
• As a mechanical filter, it uses the air-driven system (or powerhead) to create suction, that allows the gravel to capture floating particles in the water.
• As a biological filter, harmful wastes are biologically transformed into a relatively harmless substance by aerobic bacteria that accumulates in the media and return filtered water to the aquarium.
• Whilst being known as an old-fashioned method, under-gravel filters are still popular and are regarded by many as the best form of aquarium filtration. A lot of shops are still using these in their fish rooms.
